Immigration from Europe and Asia has resulted in a unique cuisine in Australia. Modern Australian cuisine is sometimes called Mod Oz. It combines Australian produce with stir-frying techniques from Asia.
Australia is also known for its excellent seafood. Other traditional Australian specialties called "bush tucker", are for more adventurous diners. They include kangaroo and wild buffalo. The meat might be cooked on an Australian favourite -- the barbecue or barbie.
Australian wine is considered world class and Australia has several famous wine regions, including Hunter Valley in
New South Wales. Australia's BYO "bring your own" system at some restaurants means you can dine with your favourite wine even if the restaurant doesn't serve it.
