Esi Benyarku clocked a personal best 11.30 seconds to win the 100-metre
dash at the Olympic trials in August to qualify for the Games in both the
100 and 4X100 relay. Her first international competition was only last
season at the 1999 World University Games. She reached the semifinals in
the 100. She competed for four years (1996-1999) at the University of
Southern California (USC) and earned the Award for Excellence in athletics
and academics and the Athletics & Academic Certificate. She graduated at
USC in business, information systems and management consulting. She plans
to attend graduate school and law school before pursuing a career as a
sports agent.
