Roger Caron picked up his first rifle at age 26 when he went on a hunting expedition with his brother. Two years later he began training in order to improve his shooting and since then he has steadily improved to become an Olympian for the first time this year. He qualified for the prone rifle event by beating the heavily favored Michel Dion at the trials.

  "I practiced like crazy before the trials I was doubling up the hours on the shooting range," said Caron, whose daughter won a bronze medal in shooting at the Canada Games last year. "I wanted to provide a maximum effort for the trials."

  Caron, a mecanic for Hydro-Quebec, wants to post a personal best score at the Games.
