Tina Connelly says that the day she met her husband on a 1993 Caribbean
cruise changed her life. It provided her some stability and her running
started to imrpove significantly. Connelly's first international
breakthrough was a bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 1997
Francophone Games.
Another influence is her training partner and Olympic teammate Leah Pells.
Connelly was named the 1996 and 1997 B.C. cross country runner of the year
and the 1986 and 1987 B.C. junior road racer of the year.
She graduated in 1992 at a psychiatric nursing course at Douglas College
following in the career footsteps of her mother. She has been employed as
a registered psychiatric nurse in adolescent psychiatry since 1992.
