Andrew Griffiths began playing field hockey at age 7 and has been on the
national team since 1989. The Sheffield, England native is excited to be
playing in his first season with the 'Old Loughtonians' club outside
London, England. He got interested in the game while living in Bermuda
where both of his parents played. After breaking his foot before the
qualification for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, he spent the tournament on
the sidelines. "I videotaped us not qualifying," he said. He was also
injured for the infamous 1998 Commonwealth Games, but was healthy for the
team's eighth place finish at the last World Cup. He says that one of the
best things about going to Sydney is that the team is close and
tightly-knit. After his playing career is over, Griffiths would like to
stay involved with the sport, and do what he can to try and raise the
profile of field hockey in Canada.
