Freestyle sprinter Craig Hutchison dropped his personal best time in the men's 100 freestyle by almost 7/10ths of a second (from 50.83 to 50.14) at the Olympic trials, an enormous amount, to qualify for his first Games.

  He is the first swimmer from the Pointe-Claire Club since the late Victor Davis in 1988 to make a Canadian Olympic squad.

  Hutchison has earned a civil-engineering degree at Arizona State and a bachelor of science at McGill and the University of Toronto. He is still at the U of T studying geology.

  Hutchison started swimming a Pointe Claire pool at age five but stopped the sport six years at age 12. It was his older sister, Jennifer, a member of the women's swim team at the University of Southern California, who encouraged him to get back into the pool.
