Rob Rusnov defeated David Dalziel in a head-to-head shootout this past July
to earn a berth in the Sydney Olympics. The two top archers in Canada were
forced to go to the shootout after both met the qualifying standard set by
the Canadian Olympic Association. Canada could only send one archer to
Sydney.
Rusnov, a second-year engineering student at Ryerson Polytechnic
University, has been ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in Canada since 1992. He won two
gold and three bronze medals at the 1995 Pan American Games and finished
38th at the '96 Olympics in Atlanta. Canada's top finish in Olympic
archery was a fifth by Lucille Lemay Jackson at the 1976 Games.
