A long time national team member, Chris Taylor was initially a coxswain for
the men's lightweight eights and won bronze medals with that crew at the
1996 and 1997 world championships. However he switched to the heavyweight
crew and helped them qualify for the Olympics earlier this year at a last
chance regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The men's eight crew is looking to regain its international stature after
not making finals at the past three world championships. They were fourth
at the Atlanta Olympics four years ago after winning gold at the 1992
Games. Taylor, who entered his first world championships in 1985,
feels the crew's win in Lucerne in July could be a turning point.
