Ford wins kayak race at nationals

 OTTAWA (CP) -- Canadian Olympic team members David Ford of Edmonton, Margaret Langford of Lions Bay, B.C., and Richard Cartwright of North Vancouver all won gold medals in their final pre-Games races Saturday at the 2000 Canadian Whitewater Nationals canoe and kayak competition.
 
 Ford, the reigning world champion, won the men's K-1 final with a two-run time of two minutes 41.36 seconds. He hit only one of 25 gates on the rushing 250-metre LeBreton Tailrace natural river course.
 
 Nick Costello of Ottawa was second in 2:49.22 and Patrick Gagne of Valleyfield, Que., third in 2:51.98.
 
 In the women's K-1, Langford earned her sixth Canadian crown in 3:00.98. Sarah Donelly of Calgary was second in 3:22.77 and Jennifer Gratto of Ottawa third in 3:32.48.
 
 Cartwright won two gold medals, placing first in the C-1 and teaming with Larry Norman of Ottawa for top spot in C-2.
