LONDON -- The World Anti-Doping Agency is ready to investigate reports that five Italian gold-medal winners at the Sydney Olympics registered high levels of human growth hormone in blood tests earlier this year.

OTTAWA (CP) -- The Canadian Olympic Association has asked Juan Antonio Samaranch, the president of the International Olympic Committee, to throw his weight behind an investigation into allegations against Italian kayaker Josefa Idem Guerrini.
Guerrini edged Canada's Caroline Brunet for gold in the women's 500-metre Olympic final Oct. 1.

Canada demands action

It might take weeks if not months for Caroline Brunet to learn the truth about a doping accusation against the Italian who beat her in her Olympic kayak final.
The International Olympic Committee's World Anti-Doping Agency will investigate a published report in Italy that Josefa Idem Guerrini was pumped up on a human growth hormone, says agency head Dick Pound, who urges caution in jumping to conclusions.
