Heyman wins silver in Grand Prix diving event

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CP) -- Emilie Heymans of Montreal won a silver medal in the women's 10-metre event Sunday at the eighth stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.

Alexandre Despatie of Montreal won a bronze in the men's tower event Saturday.

Li Na of China, the World Cup and defending Grand Prix champion, won the women's tower by scoring 9.0s on her final dive for 517.47 points, edging out Heymans (517.11).

"Emilie sent a message that the Olympic gold medal is not in the bag for the Chinese," said coach Michel Larouche of Montreal. "When the Chinese dive well, Emilie is probably the only diver that can beat them."

Wang Rui of China was third with 505.26 and Anne Montminy of Pointe-Claire, Que., ranked No. 2 in the world, finished fourth with 489.00.

The Canadian Olymnpic trials are June 9-11 in Montreal.
