USOC hires international relations director
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Hernando Madronero, a former executive of a property-liability conglomerate, was been appointed international relations director of the U.S. Olympic Committee on Thursday.
Madronero will be responsible for managing the committee's relationships with national Olympic committees, international sports federations and the International Olympic Committee.
In a related announcement, Tom Wilkinson, assistant USOC executive director, said he planned to retire this month, ending a 10-year career.
"Tom has been a great problem-solver and friend to our more than 500 staff members who sought his advice and assistance, and he is held in the highest regard in the USOC family," said Norm Blake, the organization's chief executive officer.
Madronero, originally from Colombia, has lived in the United States since 1971. Before joining the USOC, he was regional president of St. Paul Companies, a conglomerate that provides property-liability and insurance services.
He was responsible for executing the merger between the St. Paul Companies and USF&G Corp. in a four-state region.
Wilkinson previously was an Air Force colonel who was admissions director at the Air Force Academy. He also was a member of the academy's Athletic Advisory Council.
