SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Olympics organizers will restrict public access to the main sports complex at Homebush Bay to avoid overcrowding during the games.

 Security experts advised officials to provide limited general admission tickets for people without prepaid event tickets, TV news reports said Wednesday.

 The majority of Olympic venues, including track and field, swimming and baseball, are located within Olympic Park at Homebush Bay. The complex is surrounded by a security fence.

 Hundreds of thousands of ticket holders are expected to attend those venues on each of the 16 days of the Sept. 15-Oct. 1 games, including ticket holders, caterers, security and officials.

 An unchecked flow of non-ticket holders entering Olympic Park to soak up the atmosphere would add extra strain on transport and security management.

 Olympic security chiefs reportedly told SOCOG there was no way to secure the site without restricting access to non-ticket holders.

 The method of distributing the free general admission tickets and the number of tickets available has not been finalized.
