China hammers New Zealand

BLACKTOWN, Australia (AP) -- Wang Ying went 4-for-4 with two homers and four RBIs on Tuesday to lead China to a 10-0 victory over New Zealand at the Olympic softball venue.

Wang hit a two-run homer in the third inning, then hit another in the sixth to give China (2-1) a 10-run lead and, under the international "mercy rule," end the game.

Wang Lihong allowed one hit in five innings, striking out seven. Zhang Yanqing pitched the sixth inning and struck out two while allowing one hit.

Gina Weber, pitching in her third consecutive game for New Zealand (1-2), gave up two earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four.

New Zealand next plays Cuba, and China plays the United States.
