Fantasy Recap: Apr. 16
By CHRIS NICHOLS -- SLAM! Sports
Toronto 2 Ottawa 0 (Toronto leads series 3-2)
Joe Nieuwendyk went from possible scratch to insurance goal savior Friday night, scoring his third goal of the series to clinch the game... Ed Belfour posted his third shutout in five games, matching Nik Khabibulin's three shutouts as the most in this first round... Tie Domi got credited with a goal (His first point in five games) after the puck went in off Bryan Smolinski, but Domi deserved the goal after his hard work in this game... Gary Roberts played very well, but came up dry on the scoreboard and still has three goals total... Jason Spezza is still getting eight minutes of ice time a game... Patrick Lalime has had a very good series and this should ease questions of his future in Ottawa, regardless of the outcome of this series... There's not much to write about Ottawa forwards when they get shut out for the third time in five games.
Tampa Bay 3 New York 2 (Tampa Bay wins series 4-1)
Martin St. Louis (Goals now in three straight games) got a quick turnover and blasted an absolute rocket over Rick DiPietro's shoulder for the series winning goal in overtime Friday night... It took Alex Yashin (PPA) until the fifth game of the series to get a point... Ditto for Oleg Kvasha (PPG) and Mariusz Czerkawski (PPA)... This was the first time in this series that a goalie got a win without getting a shutout... Rick DiPietro had a pretty good series and should be a good choice for a fantasy netminder next season... Fred Modin's three-assist game gives him a total of 3G, 5A in this series... Ruslan Fedotenko scored his second goal in five games, showing Tampa's great offensive depth... Just another reason why Tampa is a serious Cup threat: Vinnie Lecavalier was held pointless against the Isles and the Lightning didn't even miss a beat; he has six points in 11 career playoff games... Dan Boyle had two points overall... After scoring 35 points in the regular season, Pavel Kubina had one point in this series.
