RENEGADES IN THE COMMUNITY

The people of Ottawa and Gatineau have welcomed the Renegades with open arms and support the club through thick and thin.

As a token of our appreciation, we make sure to give something back.

We take pride in our efforts to raise funds for community charities and not-for-profit organizations in the region.

We support a wide range of groups through our community efforts, but our focus is on kids, the future of our society.

Last year, goodwill functions involving the Renegades raised in excess of $250,000 and promoted healthy living to area youth.

Highlighted below are a few examples of the work we do in the community:

"Not to Kids"
Players visited Ottawa schools to promote the "Not to Kids" program. The Renegades are strong supporters of the program which seeks to educate our society - and in particular, our youth - about the Ontario's Tobacco Control Act which prohibits individuals from selling or providing cigarettes to kids under 19.

Gridiron Gourmet
Players and coaches served as waiters at Fat Tuesday's in the Byward Market during this annual event in support of The Rehabilitation Centre at the Ottawa Hospital. The Rehabilitation Centre specializes in the rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities, serving residents of Eastern Ontario and the Outaouais.

Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
The Renegades support the search for a cure to cystic fibrosis. Many members of the Renegades and the team's coaching staff attended the 13th annual Breakfast of Champions at the Westin Hotel in support of cystic fibrosis research. The Renegades also support the Ottawa Renegades 65 Roses Sports Club, a community group headed by Harold Moore that exists to raise funds for cystic fibrosis research. Renegades receiver Pat Woodcock and his wife, Melanie Reid, have been named celebrity chairpersons of club for the 2004 season.

Football 101
Continuing a commitment to connecting with our fans, the Renegades launched "Lady Renegades Football 101" seminars for the team's female fans. "We're very excited about being involved with an informative and fun project like this one," said Renegades defensive end Tim Fleiszer. "We've put together a great program that will teach those who attend everything they need to know about the game - and then some."
