Oly trials ease pain of Brier loss

By JIM BENDER -- Winnipeg Sun
A few years back, losing the Brier final would have been devastating for any top-level competitive curler.
And while the Brier will always remain the Masters of that sport, there is a new height for them to reach now. And that is the Olympics, especially for Canucks. Make it to the Olympics as a Canadian curler and you're almost guaranteed a medal -- there's a good chance its colour will be yellow.

    Ferbey's Albertans flyin' high

By PERRY LEFKO -- Toronto Sun
OTTAWA -- Alberta ruled the roost yesterday, pigeon-holing Manitoba 8-4 in the final of the Nokia Brier.
The game featured a pigeon flying throughout the Civic Centre, but it didn't ruffle Alberta skip Randy Ferbey or his teammates, in particular third David Nedohin, who threw last rocks and made a clutch shot in the fourth end.

Oh, what a relief it is!

By CON GRIWKOWSKY -- Edmonton Sun
OTTAWA -- Dave Nedohin missed the climactic moment of the biggest win of his curling career.
Before Kerry Burtnyk delivered his last rock, Nedohin decided he needed a potty break before playing what he figured would be the final end.

    Burtnyk's gang disappointed, not crushed

By JIM BENDER -- Winnipeg Sun
OTTAWA -- Ken Watson's record is safe for now.
With his loss to Alberta's Randy Ferbey in the 2001 Nokia Brier final, Kerry Burtnyk failed to capture his third national men's curling title, which would have tied him with Watson for the most on Manitoba's all-time list and second on the national list.
