      LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- They came all this way and all they got was the hole in the Swiss cheese.
     Before most of Canada was awake yesterday morning, Randy Ferbey's team had already taken its dubious place among the rinks whose week at the world curling championship proved to be a write-off.

    Sweden's Lindholm returns to winner's circle

      LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- It's cold comfort for Canadian curling fans that the power in men's curling has shifted back to Europe.
     When Randy Ferbey was unable to qualify for yesterday's final, there must have been a lot of gnashing of teeth at CBC headquarters. Without Canada in the final, this is sure to be a ratings dud.

    Canadian men lose bronze medal match

     LAUSANNE, Switzerland (CP) -- For the fifth time in more than 30 years a Canadian men's rink left the world curling championships without a medal.
     Randy Ferbey's Alberta rink lost a 10-9 shootout to Norway in Sunday's bronze-medal match and is the fifth team since 1968 to leave the tournament without any hardware.

    Burned, humbled, victorious

     LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Colleen Jones went for her destiny and found it.
     She was the gal who came in for the gold and she's heading home tomorrow with the Eldorado she's been searching out for so long. After a couple of strikeouts, Jones and her Halifax Mayflower Club can finally call themselves world champions.
