Saturday, November 22, 1997 Dahlie wins World Cup cross-country ski openerBEITOSTOLEN, Norway (AP) -- Defending champion Bjorn Dahlie of Norway won cross-country skiing's World Cup opener Saturday, covering the 10-kilometer classical-style race in 23 minutes, 27.6 seconds.It was the 38th career World Cup victory for Dahlie. Vladimir Smirnov, a Swedish-based racer from Kazakhstan, finished 10.1 seconds back in second place. Larissa Lasutina of Russia won the women's 5 kilometer classical in 12:52.0. Bente Martinsen of Norway was second, almost 10 seconds behind. |
