Tuesday, July 14, 1998France, England win FIFA Fair Play AwardZURICH (AP) -- World soccer champions France and England are the joint winners of the World Cup's Fair Play Award, world soccer's governing body FIFA said today.Both teams averaged 828 points in the fair play classification during the tournament, which ended Sunday when finalists France beat opponents Brazil 3-0. Norway finished third in the standings. The joint winners will each receive a trophy, individual medals for their players and $25,000 US worth of equipment for youth soccer. The awards will be presented in Barcelona next January. The fair play classification is based on a scale which rewards good sportsmanship and a team's positive approach. Only teams which pass the first round qualify for the award.
