While the 1994 Cup set attendance records with a total of 3.57 million spectators and an average crowd of 68,604, Rothenberg warned fans and officials not to expect similar crowds for this summer's tournament in France. For one thing, the stadiums in France are smaller. "I think quite honestly, the French emphasis is not quite the same as the American," said Michel Platini, the former French World Cup star who now is president of the French World Cup organizers.
