Edmundo ready to earn Brazil roster spot

FLORENCE, Italy (AP) -- Edmundo is ready to start earning a place on Brazil's World Cup roster.
The fiery striker, back with Fiorentina after walking out in a dispute over playing time, is set to start for the Serie A club for the first time Sunday.
Brazil coach Mario Zagallo had criticized Edmundo for leaving Fiorentina, and when the player returned March 17, he vowed to earn a spot as a reserve forward for France '98.
With Anselmo Robbiati, Domenico Morfeo and Russian Andrei Kanchelskis playing poorly, Fiorentina coach Alberto Malesani said he will use Edmundo alongside Belgian international Luis Oliveira and Argentine star Gabriel Batistuta against last-place Napoli.
The Brazilian tallied five goals in a scrimmage against a minor league team this week.
"Edmundo represents one of our recent bright spots," Malesani said. "He's working well, with humility and desire. Too bad he didn't before."
