Claude Le Roy to coach Cameroon during World Cup

PARIS (AP) -- Claude Le Roy, director of sport at French club Paris Saint Germain, has accepted an offer to coach Cameroon during the World Cup finals, the club announced today.
"Claude Le Roy . . .. has accepted the offer by Cameroon's sport's minister to become coach of the Indomitable Lions during the World Cup in France," a statement by the Parisian club said.
Coach Jean Onguene quit after Cameroon's disappointing performance in the recent African Nations Cup, where they only reached the quarter-finals.
It will be Le Roy's second stint with Cameroon, after leading them to the 1988 African Cup title.
Le Roy, who has coached 10 national teams, including Senegal, the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia, said he did not know whether he would return after the finals to Paris Saint Germain with whom he has a five-year contract.
Cameroon did not lose a game in qualifying for the World Cup under Belgian coach Henri Depieux. But Depieux was still replaced for the last game against Zimbabwe by Onguene.
Cameroon has been grouped with Italy, Chile and Austria in the first round of the finals.
