Yugoslavs hurting
BELGRADE (AP) -- Troubled by injuries of his key players, Yugoslav coach Slobodan Santrac
announced today that his team's preparations for the World Cup would start May 22.
But Santrac didn't announce a roster since several of his key players are either injured or
are recuperating. He said the list will be announced May 18.
First-choice goalkeeper Ivica Kralj and central defender Risto Vidakovic are both hurt. Key
midfielder Dejan Savicevic of AC Milan and main striker Predrag Mijatovic of Real Madrid have just
returned after lengthy injuries and are not in the top form.
Yugoslavia plays Iran, Germany and the United States in Group F of this summer's World Cup
in France.
Santrac said training will start in Palic, a lakeside resort on the border with Hungary. On
May 29, Yugoslavia will play World Cup qualifier Nigeria in a warmup match in Belgrade.
The final preparations before moving to France will be in Switzerland where Yugoslavia is
scheduled to play Japan on June 3 and Switzerland on June 6, Santrac said.
