Chile qualifies for World Cup finals
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- Chile beat Bolivia 3-0 Sunday to earn a berth
in the soccer World Cup finals for the first time in 16 years.
Rodrigo Barrera scored for Chile in the 24th minute and Marcelo Salas
added another in the 41st minute. With six minutes to go, Juan Carreno made it
3-0.
Chile, which last played the World Cup finals in 1982 in Spain, joins
Argentina, Colombia and Paraguay, plus defending champion Brazil, as South
America's representatives in next year's tournament in France.
Bolivia's Julio Baldivieso was ejected 10 minutes into the second half
for protesting a call by Brazilian referee Wilson de Souza. Seven minutes later,
his teammate Fernando Ochoaizpur was also ejected for fouling Francisco Rojas.
Bolivian Oscar Sanchez was also expelled for kicking Carreno after the
goal.
