Jamaica, El Salvador make their point

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) -- Waldir Guerra of El Salvador scored with three minutes left to salvage a 2-2 tie with Jamaica, leaving Jamaica on the verge of qualifying for the World Cup and keeping El Salvador's thin hopes alive.
Jamaica is in third place in the regional tournament that will send three teams to the 1998 finals in France. El Salvador is three points back and needs a victory against the United States next week, combined with a Jamaican loss to Mexico advance.
Mexico and the United States already have clinched spots in the World Cup.
Nildenson De Mello opened the scoring for El Salvador at 47 minutes, but Deon Burton tied the match on a header five minutes later.
El Salvador coach Milovan D'Joric pulled a defender and sent two wings forward to pressure the Jamaicans, but Paul Hall put Jamaica ahead at 78 minutes, taking a ball solo down much of the field to beat goalkeeper Raul Garcia.
Guerra finally looped a cross into the Jamaican net, bringing some 40,000 fans at Cuscatlan Stadium to their feet, where they remained until the end of the game.
