    De Ferran leads, CART battle moves

     VANCOUVER (CP) -- With six events left in the 20-race CART season, the series championship is up for grabs. As usual.
     Champ Car is perhaps the most competitive open-wheel series in the world. The 1999 points race ended in a tie, with Juan Montoya named champion over Dario Franchitti based on race victories.

    VANCOUVER -- Alex Tagliani's domination of the Molson Indy Vancouver ended with transmission failure and Patrick Carpentier was bunted out of fourth place by Kenny Brack as Player's/Forsythe Racing's triumph of qualifying one-two Saturday ended in frustration and anger.
    Roberto Moreno won in his Visteon Reynard Lola after passing Gil de Ferran's Marlboro Reynard Honda for the third time in the race, nine laps before the checkered flag. Michael Andretti was third with a steady drive from 11th on the grid in his Motorola Reynard.

    Moreno driven to tears

    VANCOUVER -- As Roberto Moreno pulled away from Gil de Ferran on Lap 89 on his way to victory in yesterday's Molson Indy Vancouver, tears came to his eyes as his thoughts turned to Greg Moore, the Maple Ridge, B.C. native CART racer killed in a 1999 crash.
    "Four laps to go I start crying in the car," said Moreno, whose first career win came at Cleveland last year. "I almost put my car in the wall.

    Moreno wins Vancouver Indy

     VANCOUVER (CP) -- Brazilian driver Roberto Moreno took the lead late in the race to win the Vancouver Molson Indy on Sunday, only his second victory in eight years of CART competition.
     Moreno's Patrick Racing Toyota Reynard got past Penske's Gil de Ferran on the Lap 89 and pulled away.
